Bipolar Disorder

In order to truly treat a condition, its important to first understand how it presents itself and how it impacts your everyday life. Bipolar disorder, formerly called manic depression, is a mental health condition that causes extreme mood swings that include emotional highs (mania or hypomania) and lows (depression). Do you experience the symptoms below?

Mania presents itself as long periods of feeling “high.” Behavioral changes could include the following:

  • rapids speech or racing thoughts

  • being easily distracted

  • increase in activities (completing projects around the house)

  • Feeling restless

  • Significant decrease in need for sleep

  • Impulsive behavior or engaging in high risk behavior

Depression presents itself as long periods of feeling sad or hopeless. Behavioral changes could include the following:

  • having trouble concentrating

  • restless or irritable

  • changes in eating or sleeping behavior

  • thoughts of death or self-harm
